Emergency crews remain at the scene of a tower block fire in Bristol which left one man dead and eight in hospital. Emergency services were called just after 2.15am today (September 25) to a fire on the top floor of Twinnell House at Wills Drive, Easton.
One man died in the fire, which happened on the 16th floor. Eight people are currently in hospital – seven for treatment for smoke inhalation and another for minor burns – while three others were treated by the ambulance service at the scene.
The fire is now out, but emergency crews remain on the scene this morning. Around 90 residents have been evacuated as a result of the fire.

Charred windows can be seen on the top floor of the tower block where the blaze started. A rest centre has been set up at St. Nicholas Of Tolentino RC Church, Lawfords Gate, where Bristol City Council is currently providing welfare support to around 40 people.
Some residents - wrapped in foil blankets - remain outside the property waiting to be able to re-enter their homes. Wills Drive remains closed while emergency services remain at the scene.
A cordon has been put up around the building. The cordon is expected to remain in place until the building has been assessed and deemed safe.
A full investigation into the incident will be carried out in due course.
Avon and Somerset Police Superintendent Tony Blatchford said: “Enquiries into what happened have already begun and we will work closely with the fire service to fully understand what started the fire and how the man sadly died.”
