In a tragic end to the Easter break, a man has died and a woman remains critical after a motorcycle and a car collided on the Bruce Highway.
Seven people were involved in the crash, the cause of which is yet to be determined.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said there had been five people in the car, including two children.
The CQ Rescue Helicopter transported the 19-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, to the Townsville University Hospital in critical condition.
A QAS spokesperson said critical care paramedics worked to save the 60-year-old rider's life at the scene.
The 63-year-old female driver of the car was transported to Mackay Base Hospital with "moderate" injuries, police said, while the four passengers – a man, woman and two children – were not injured.
The Bruce Highway near the intersection with McNeil Road at Koumala was blocked for about three hours.
A police spokesperson said the forensic crash unit was investigating.
The section of highway between Mackay and Rockhampton is often referred to by locals as the "horror stretch".
The man's death is the third to have occurred on that section of the Bruce Highway this year.
