Supermarkets' regular opening hours have undergone some changes as we arrive at Easter Sunday. So if you're planning on doing a little last minute Easter shopping, you might want to note these down.
Holiday breaks like Christmas and Easter bring rules surrounding how long shops can open. Although some local shops might stay open longer, you'll find that most of the main retail giants will all alter their hours.
With Good Friday falling on April 7 this year and then Easter Monday on April 10, many of the major supermarkets are set to change their hours and close on Easter Sunday. All supermarkets across the UK will be open as usual on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and Easter Monday, Yorkshire Live reports.
So far Aldi, Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Lidl and Sainsbury's have all confirmed they will close hundreds of stores this Easter, which is why it’s important to check in advance before heading to the shops.
Here’s what you need to know about which supermarkets are open on Easter Sunday.
Aldi
On Good Friday, April 7, and Easter Saturday, April 8, Aldi supermarkets were open as normal, from 8am to 10pm. Aldi supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 9. On Easter Monday, April 10, they will reopen from 8am to 8pm.
Morrisons
Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales were open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday and Saturday and will be open from 7am to 8pm on Easter Monday, again this will vary from store to store but you can check your local branch here.
All Morrisons supermarkets will be shut in England on Easter Sunday.
Sainsbury's
Sainsbury's is pretty much open as normal over the Easter bank holiday with the exception of Easter Sunday, which will see larger stores in England close their doors for one day.
However, smaller Sainsbury's Local stores will be open from 6am to 11pm, this does vary across the country so it's always worth checking your local branch here.
Tesco
Tesco stores were open for normal trading hours on Good Friday between 6am and 10pm. However, some outlets which normally open beyond this closed slightly earlier than usual, at 10pm.
All stores are closed on Easter Sunday. Stores will then be back open on Easter Monday with varying opening times.
Some larger stores have announced that they will be open between 8am and 6pm on Easter Monday.
Asda
On Good Friday and Easter Monday most stores were and will be open from 7am until around 10pm. However, this could be a slightly early time of 8am on the Monday.
Saturday hours were largely the same with stores open between 7am and 10pm. All stores will be closed on Easter Sunday to give staff a well-earned day off. However, this does not include shops in Scotland which will stay open.
Hours will vary from store to store so customers are being urged to check individual opening times on the online store locator. The hours for the majority of Asda stores have been as follows:
- Friday, April 7 - 7am-10pm
- Saturday, April 8 - 7am-10pm
- Sunday, April 9 - CLOSED
- Monday, April 10 - 7am-8pm
Lidl
Lidl was understood to be open from 8am to 8pm on Good Friday, Saturday and is due to be open on Easter Monday.
However, all stores will be closed on Easter Sunday. Customers are urged to check their local store for opening times over the Easter weekend.
M&S
M&S stores were open as normal on Good Friday and will be on Easter Monday. Most M&S outlets in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday to give staff the day off, though a handful will open from 9am to 6pm.
