Planning a getaway during Easter can be tricky business, especially when it comes to the weather. We're not quite into the sunniest or hottest of seasons and, as previous years have proven, winter weather here in Bristol seems to be surpassing the month of March - last year we had snow in April!
So if you're looking for a bit of sunshine and warmer weather this Easter holiday, you may be considering jetting off somewhere abroad. And, fortunately for us, Bristol Airport has some idyllic destinations that are seeing sun around this time of year.
Whether you're after a city break in the sunshine, a hotter beach vacation, a holiday full of family fun, or an escape to somewhere peaceful, there's plenty on offer. We've compiled an alphabetical list of some of the hottest destinations you can fly to from Bristol this Easter school holiday, which runs from Monday, April 3 to Friday, April 14.

Canary Islands
You can fly to a number of destinations in the Canaries from Bristol - Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife. According to the Met Office, the maximum temperatures for these destinations in the Canary Islands average at around 23C in April - 22.9C in Gran Canaria, 23.3C in Fuerteventura, 23.7C in Lanzarote and 23C in Tenerife.
April's even classed as the beginning of the summer season, yet the most popular time to travel here falls in the months of June, July and August, so you may get that bit of peace and quiet you've been after if you jet off during Easter.
Cape Verde
Cape Verde is described by the Met Office as being a "fine example of island life" and boasting "hot temperatures throughout the year, very little rainfall and enjoyable sea breezes", adding that it's "a great destination for visitors holidaying at any time of the year". During April, the average daily maximum temperature here is around 25.8C, with average relative humidity at around 71% and average rainfall at 5mm.
What's more, there's on average around seven hours of sunshine daily here, meaning that while the day will be nice and hot, you can be sure to enjoy cooler evenings for a bit of respite. You can fly to Sal - the northeasternmost island of Cape Verde - from Bristol Airport, did you know?
Croatia
You can fly to three destinations in Croatia from Bristol - Dubrovnik, Pula and Split. Tui says that the average temperature in Dubrovnik in April is around 15C, with 58% humidity and 22mm of rain during the month and this is generally the average for Croatia as a whole.
It adds that it's usually too cold to swim in the sea at this time of year, with average sea temperatures at around 16C. Pula is even colder, with average temperatures at around 12C, rain at around 18mm and humidity at around 69%.
Cyprus
Bristol has flights to two locations in Cyrpus - Larnaca and Paphos. According to holiday-weather, Lacarna's average temperature in April is around 17.5C, with highs of 23C and lows of 12C.
It sees around 7 hours of sunshine a day and an average of 7 days of rainfall, while the average sea temperature sits at around 19C. Paphos is apparently slightly cooler, with average temperatures of 17C, highs of 22C, lows of 11C and an average sea temperature of around 18C.
However, Paphos gets some nine hours of sunshine a day in April and just 4.1 days of rain on average this month.
Egypt
You can fly to both Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh from Bristol. Tui says that the average temperature in Hurghada during April is around 26C, with 0mm of rain, an 86% chance of sun and 35% humidity on average.
It adds that days are usually hot, with "balmy evenings" and April is a "particularly good time of year to swim in the sea, with water temperatures at around 24C. Sharm El Sheikh is similar in temperature, averaging around 25C in April, with highs of around 30C and lows of around 20C, plus an average of 12 hours of sunshine and just 1mm of rainfall, according to holiday-weather.
Greece
There are a total of 12 destinations in Greece you can fly to from Bristol:

- Corfu
- Crete
- Kefalonia
- Koz
- Mykonos
- Preveza
- Rhodes
- Santorini
- Skiathos
- Thessaloniki
- Zante
According to the Met Office, in April Athens has an average daily temperature of 19.8C, Corfu has an average daily temperature of around 19.4C, Crete stands at 20C, Kefalonia at 20.1C, Kos at 21.4C, Santorini at 19.5C and Zante at 19.4C.
Italy
You can fly to eight Italian destinations from Bristol Airport. These are:
- Catania
- Milan
- Naples
- Pisa
- Rome
- Turin
- Venice
- Verona
To give you an idea of temperatures in April, the Met Office says that Milan's figure stands at around 19.3C, Rome is around 18.8C and Venice is around 17.4C.
Mexico
You can fly to Cancun, Mexico from Bristol Airport where, in April, average daily temperatures are around 36.7C - that's hot. The average humidity here for this time of year is around 65% and Cancun receives on average 55mm of rainfall in total for the month of April.
You can also expect six hours of sunshine a day and it is said that the best time to visit Cancun is during March, so you may still benefit from some of the weather, without as many tourists spoiling your break.
Morocco
You can fly to Marrakech, Morocco from Bristol Airport where, in April, average daily temperatures are around 25.4C. The average humidity here for this time of year is around 58% and Marrakech receives on average 31mm of rainfall in total for the month of April.
You can also expect eight hours of sunshine a day and the Met Office reports that the best time to visit is during the Spring and Autumn when "temperatures are consistently pleasant without getting unbearably hot".
Portugal
You can fly to four destinations in Portugal from Bristol - Faro, Lisbon, Madeira and Porto. The Met Office describes it as being similar to most Mediterranean countries with hot summer months and "temperate" winter weather, making it popular with tourists out of the summer season.
The Met Office also says: "Portugal gets more sunshine on average than California, which is due to it sharing the same latitude as its neighbour Spain. An average temperature of 21 °C for the year is helped by mild winter temperatures that dip to 14 °C in the capital Lisbon in the centre of the country.
"Head further south to the popular Algarve region and average temperatures are 16°C."
Spain
There are 13 destinations in Spain which you can fly to from Bristol:

- Valencia
Average temperatures for the month of April are around 21.4C in Alicante, 20.4C in the Balearic Islands, 18.5C in Barcelona and 19.3C in Madrid.
Turkey
There are four destinations you can fly to in Turkey from Bristol Airport - Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and Izmir. To give you an idea of the sort of weather in the country during the month of April Bodrum, which is one of Turkey's prime holiday spots for Brits, sees an average daily temperature of around 21.4C in April, 61% average humidity, 44mm average total rainfall and eight hours of sunshine a day throughout the month.
USA
You can fly to Orlando from Bristol Airport, which has generally warm weather all year round. During the month of April, Orlando has an average daily temperature of around 28.3C, with 69% humidity, 46mm of average total rainfall and nine hours of sunshine a day (on average).
The best time to visit Orlando, according to the Met Office, is between March and May when "temperatures are comfortably warm in the mid to high 20s and most importantly it avoids the rainy and hurricane seasons".
