Charlie Brooks has hinted she could be returned to EastEnders as Janine Butcher.
The actress was part of a huge Christmas storyline on the BBC soap, which saw Mick Carter - played by Danny Dyer - spend his last day in Walford. He chased Janine to the cliff top and ended up jumping into the water to try and save both his partner Janine and his ex Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). So far, his body has not been found - but detectives have now located his wallet.
Charlie insists she could be back on the BBC soap soon, despite Janine heading to prison for her part in Linda's crash.
Speaking on the ITV show today, she said: "I'm still getting messages of hate about breaking up Mick and Linda but I was so honoured to be part of that storyline and to work with those two. I love Danny and Kellie so much.
"We really had a fantastic eighteen months and I loved my time there. I was so honoured to be there and be part of that massive storyline and see Danny Dyer out of the house."
She added: "Pop in and out whenever I fancy... not when I fancy, that's up to [the show bosses].
Holly and Phil praised Janine's mic drop moments - as Charlie said her character was the perfect one to make regular returns to cause some "explosions" for the other resident, hinting that she could be back.
"She's so high drama, I don't know how you'd keep a character like that in the show without diluting them slightly. I think she can be a useful tool and cause some explosions and go there again," she added.
Charlie previously revealed it was especially tough to leave the BBC soap this time.
She said: "I've had the best year and a half getting back into Janine's shoes. She's so fun to play, but I also love playing all the vulnerable stuff with Janine as well. I'm an actress, so I want to do everything. But, yeah, it is hard.
"I also feel like if she was to stay in the show, the character might not be as strong somehow. I wouldn't want her to be diluted because she is so full-on, she's so dramatic, but I always feel like there's more to know, which is a really good place to be with a character. If something feels quite layered, quite complex, it always stays interesting and luckily for me, Janine has remained that way. But I always say, ‘Never say never’. EastEnders is home to me, and I've had a fantastic time, so I'd be open to a return for sure."
