Lola's loved ones gather to say goodbye to the young mother of one, in scenes that will change their lives forever.
One of the new characters certainly causes a stir, when three other residents quickly recognise him. As the three newcomers settle in, it's clear they have not won over the existing residents. Here's the biggest moments of the week ahead in Albert Square...
Lola dies
EastEnders airs the devastating moment Lola Pearce dies next week on the BBC soap.
In heartbreaking scenes, the week will begin with her family learning it's Lola's final days as she continues to deteriorate following a brain tumour diagnosis last year.
The character was told her condition was terminal, but as her treatment stopped working recently she learned the devastating news she had just months to live.
Next week, Lola's death nears and her heartbroken family must gather the strength to say goodbye. Lola begins to suffer seizures, and the nurse breaks the news to Jay that his wife doesn't have long left, and is near the end.
As the week continues, Jay stays with Lola who is now unresponsive - as the nurse arrives and explains there will now be long periods of unconsciousness.
She informs Jay that now is the time for the family to say their goodbyes as her death looms. By the end of the week, Lola has tragically passed away leaving Walford in mourning and in shock.
The Knights arrive
EastEnders airs the arrival of three new characters next week on the BBC soap, as the new family head to Walford.
George Knight and his daughters Anna and Gina make their debut, as they join his partner Elaine Peacock after the news they were the new family in The Queen Vic.
Elaine has gone into business with daughter Linda Carter, with the pair co-owners of the famous establishment.
But it seems George has a past, and he is immediately recognised by a number of Walford characters as he makes his debut.
George will be played by James Bond actor Colin Salmon, whose other credentials include Resident Evil, Alien vs Predator, Arrow, Silent Witness and Death in Paradise.
Next week George arrives and Linda is immediately rattled by her mum's new man, but George insists he wants the best future for his family.
He is instantly recognised by, Jack Branning, Phil Mitchell and Winston as they reveal George is a championship boxer. His family do not get off to the best start though, as the girls misjudge the mood at The Vic amid the tragic death of Lola Pearce.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
