EastEnders legend Cheryl Fergison teaching kids singing lessons ahead of Netflix debut

Former EastEnders favourite Cheryl Fergison is teaching children singing lessons ahead of her role in Catherine Tate's new Netflix comedy.

The TV star's exciting new role comes ten years after Heather Trott was murdered by Ben Mitchell.

Cheryl, who played Heather from 2007 to 2012, will be leading inmates through a musical as part of the prison activities.

The rehearsals see Catherine, 52, star as the selection of odd and hilarious women who will be taught the ways of the theatre by Cheryl's character.

Her role is slightly reflective of her real life, as she works as a singing teacher in when she is between jobs.

According to The Sun, the 56-year-old offers lessons for £60 an hour after she was asked by fans.

After advertising her classes on TikTok, Cheryl said: "You will have an hour with me where you can choose the subject/s that are of interest.

“It is important that these 1-2-1 sessions are tailor made just for you.”

The mum-of-one offers other services, including stage acting, screen acting, script reading and confidence building.

And for EastEnders fans, she lets students into "how a soap is put together for your viewing" as well as how she "developed the character of Heather Trott".

In her one-on-ones she added that she's also happy to answer any questions about her time on the soap as well as any other stage/TV productions that she has worked on.

In 2020 she admitted that she found that she was typecast in her role as "kind" Heather.

She explained: "Heather is hard to shake. I got fairy parts when I left EastEnders in pantos because Heather was lovely and kind.

"I only ask for a little bit of imagination from casting directors."

Sadly for Heather there is no return to the soap as she was killed off by Ben Mitchell, however Cheryl had other ideas.

Catherine plays a range of new characters – including prison Governor, Laura Willis (Netflix)

“I had this idea when they took me out of it that they could bring back Heather's long lost twin.

"It didn’t happen and you know what, I live up north now so it's the cobbles or the dales."

Catherine's six-part comedy will air on Netflix on April 14 and follows the lives of inmates at the fictional female prison HMP Woldsley.

The actress was recently asked by The One Show host Jermaine Jenas: "Catherine, there's a rumour going around that you might be returning in the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who..."

The new comedy is called Hard Cell and is out in April (Netflix)

Catherine joked that she "probably started a lot of them", and hinted that she would be keen to return to the show if the opportunity presented itself.

"What can I tell you?" She teased, "No, I wish it was [true]. Well, no one's been in touch."

Tate looked down the camera lens and jokingly added: "But I'm on the same number, I'd just like to say. So, if you've got the money, I've got the time."
