EastEnders Ian Beale actor issues weight loss advice after shedding 3st by giving up one drink

The actor who plays Ian Beale in Eastenders has revealed the secret behind his three stone weightloss. Adam Woodyatt, 54, is renowned by soap fans for his role in the BBC One show.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Adam is currently on a break from the BBC show and last appeared on Albert Square in January 2021. He has spent the majority of his time since touring a murder mystery play around the country named Looking Good Dead.

However, Adam has also adopted a healthier lifestyle and impressed fans with his slimmer frame. The actor has opened up on his weight in the past and how he was once subjected to a cruel comment from a member of the public.

In 2020, he told the Mirror: "This woman looks at me and says, ‘You’re fatter than you are on the telly’. I said to her, ‘If I had said that to you, you could go to the papers and say I was being rude, this and that. I’m sorry, I don’t like the way you spoke to me She said ‘I didn’t mean it’ and went off."

Adam has dropped three stone and credits his weight loss with giving up one drink. He told Mirror Online: "Basically I gave up alcohol. That was the biggest change I made.

“With giving up alcohol, the weight drops off and because the weight dropped it was easier to cycle. So it was easier to stay fit.

“That's all it was. I'm just not really focused on it. I've not really made a big fuss about it. I just stopped drinking. But everyone's different. For me, giving up alcohol was the right thing to do. I'm not going to turn around and say that's it forever, that I'm never ever going to drink again.

"But at this point in my life, yeah, I'm quite happy not drinking. And the result is I've lost about three stone in weight." Adam revealed he has replaced alcohol with another common drink.

He said: "I feel 100 percent better now. Until you actually stop drinking you don't realise how much it affects so many things. Now I just drink coffee because it tastes better."

He has also credited his weight loss to a change to his exercise programme which was encouraged by Jake Wood, who plays Max Branning in the soap. He told his Instagram followers: “Like my mate Mr Wood says, 'you got to get out there. You got to do it'. He goes running and I go cycling."

He told the Mirror he was able to exercise even more once he started to lose weight. He said: “I had always liked cycling but as anybody who cycles knows, it's a lot easier if you are lighter. People will spend hundreds of pounds on shaving 10 grams off equipment, like lighter pedals.

"I used to love cycling but stopped for quite a while because obviously, it wasn't that easy when you are carrying that extra weight. I've just got back into it now because it fits with my life at the moment."
