Sonia Fowler will be left heartbroken on EastEnders next week when her world comes crashing down around her.
The much-loved character - played by Natalie Cassidy - has been dating Reiss for a while now, but he has a huge secret, which is all set to come out next week. Sonia thinks she's found her "special person" in Reiss so is devastated when she finds out what happened.
Natalie has now opened up about how Sonia is feeling as she realises all is not what it seems, despite the pair really clicking with one another - but she is desperate for him to be more romantic with her.
Speaking of what's to come, she explained: "I think we can safely say that Sonia has found a special person in Reiss. He’s not your average guy. Some may say he’s a bit of an oddball but he’s very clever, he’s got a good job as an accountant, he likes the simple things in life and I think Sonia really likes that. They’ve just clicked and they really get on.
"More recently, we’ve seen her wanting Reiss to be a bit more romantic when she sees Rocky and Kathy being loved up. But for her birthday, he dresses up the kitchen and gets balloons. I think she finally thinks ‘this is someone is caring for me, it’s not always me going out and caring for other people’. It’s just lovely to be cared for."
She added: "So when the news breaks and Reiss reveals his secret, I think she’s utterly heartbroken and it’s quite a difficult time for her. At first, she’s very angry but I think very quickly she realises there’s more to it and she eventually wants to hear him out."
Natalie explains how Sonia has no idea something's up with Reiss - and the revelation hits her like a "tonne of bricks".
"I don’t think she has any clue about what’s going to happen. I think she trusts him, which explains why she’s so hurt. She perhaps think he’s nipped out to get her another present or he might have just gone off to do something. I think she’s quite naive to it all," she said, "It just happens so quickly and he just says it how it is and she thinks ‘oh my god’. It just hits her in the face like a tonne of bricks."
She added: "When she orders him out of her life, it’s more about that moment and feeling humiliated – it’s her birthday and they were due to perform on stage in front of everybody in the Square – so everything quickly comes crashing down."
