EastEnders fans broke down in tears at Lexi's gesture to mum Lola after finding out she had just six months left to live.
In heartbreaking scenes tonight, Lola gathered most of her family - including Jay, Ben, Lexi, Emma and Callum - around as she relayed the doctor's prognosis to them. A doctor had told her earlier in the week that she had just six months left at best.
Fans of the BBC soap were left heartbroken when they noticed Lexi's sweet gesture to her mum as she was told she wouldn't get better but vowed she had "tried" her best to fight the brain tumour.
"I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I'm sorry, sorry for what I'm about to say, I don't want to. I wasn't going to tell you guys as I thought I'd be protecting you but I can't do it, Jay can't do it," she began to say.
She added: "This brain tumour of mine has got bigger," as Ben asked what sort of timeline they were talking. It was then that Jay revealed they had six months at best, as a horrified Ben called Lexi over to him.
As Lola rushed over too, Ben told her off and said she didn't need to hear it - before Lola said she "couldn't protect" her from it anymore, as Callum and mum Emma reacted to the news too.
"I'll stick all my money in that bucket if I have to," Ben said as Lola admitted it was "too late" for that now, at least for her, but vowed they would help other people. Lexi broke down in tears as she willed her mum to get better.
However, it was Lexi's gesture that had fans of the BBC soap sobbing as she rummaged around in her pocket before handing over her secret savings, leaving everyone shattered as Lola said she really tried to fight the disease.
The family decided to go through with their fundraising event, as Lexi told them it was her and Lola's day.
Fans were crushed by the scenes and rushed to social media to share their heartache.
"That scene was utterly heartbreaking! Lola trying to hold it together, Ben’s reaction when Lexi pulls out the pocket money she’s saved, Callum crying… Danielle, Max, Tony & little Isabella are incredible! Smashed it and made me ball!" one wrote, as a second added: "Lexi saving her money for her mam thinking she was gunna get better #eastenders."
A third shared: "This is so heartbreaking, Lola and Lexi, crying #eastenders."
The tragic scenes come after Lola was told by doctors she had a maximum of six months left. She had arrived at the hospital full of hope, as she explained to the doctor that she and her husband Jay had been working on planning their boxing event to raise money for a charity to support those families going through similar to them.
However, the doctor stopped her and told her she had some bad news for them.
"I'm afraid it's not good news. The MRI has detected the tumour rate is advancing again," she said, as a hopeful Lola suggested more chemotherapy. "We can talk about starting you on some chemotherapy, but I have to stress, this is purely palliative."
As Jay asked how long his wife had left, the pair were told: "Lola I'm very sorry but we're talking six months at best."
