EastEnders fans share their memories of actress and soap icon June Brown

EastEnders fans have been sharing their fond memories of Dot Cotton actress June Brown after it was announced by the BBC that she had died at the age of 95. She had played the iconic busy-body character in the soap opera for more than three decades, with her most recent appearance in 2020.

Since the sad news broke on social media, Albert Square fans have been sending their love and thoughts to June's family and friends and many have also been sharing their favourite moments from the actress' career. Clips and tweets have been posted of the memorable moment June met Lady Gaga on the Graham Norton Show back in 2013.

Becky tweeted: "Fond memories of meeting June Brown when she lived in Croydon. She appeared at a girl guides event at Ratcliffe hall many years ago, and at a fete for Mencap, she did a lot of charity work behind the scenes. I remember her as genuine and sincere". Susan Irvine Russam posted: "I haven't watched EastEnders for 20+ years but I do remember the episode when June Brown did a monologue as Dot it was sublime as was she"

Anne Penfold said: "I still remember the EastEnders episode that was just June Brown's and, I think, Gretchen Franklin's, characters talking to each other and discussing their families etc. Such great acting. I only watched that soap for a year, and that's the only episode I remember. R.I.P. June xx." Sue Brandon added: "Sad to hear that June Brown has passed away - what a legacy she leaves. I’ll never forget her wonderful interview alongside @ladygaga on the Graham Norton Show a few years ago. RIP.

"Very sad news regarding June Brown. An absolute legend on and off screen. When she met Lady Gaga on Graham Norton I laughed until I cried. Remembered for a very long time. RIP x" Helen Hulme added while Eliza Thornberry tweeted: "Heartbroken. As an avid EastEnders fan till this very day this is very sad news. RIP June Brown"

"I adored June Brown and her Dot Cotton character. Always excellent reactions, fag in mouth and lovely little monologues she would have with people. A true soap icon! RIP" Aaron Kiely posted and Scottish weather presenter Kawser Quamer tweeted: "I remember meeting #JuneBrown in BBC Elstree’s canteen many years ago, when I was there for a tv directing course. She was dressed in character as Dot Cotton, in a dressing gown with rollers in her hair having lunch - surreal, esp as I’d grown up watching her! Lovely lady. RIP".
