EastEnders viewers were left distracted as Lola Pearce prepared to undergo brain surgery in Walford after she was diagnosed with a shock tumour.
The soap worked alongside Brain Tumour Research and Macmillan Cancer Support on the storyline, which began this autumn and has seen Lola and her loved ones deal with the devastating news.
The Walford storyline has seen Lola, played by Danielle Harold, reckon with the reality of being a young person living with a brain tumour.
In scenes on Tuesday night, the character was seen preparing to be taken to the operating room after doctors warned her she had to stay in hospital until the day of her operation.
Lola was joined by partner Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick ), who spent time with her ahead of the surgery.
Yet as the pair discussed their future, eagle-eyed fans at home noticed that Lola was still wearing her bright pink nail polish as she was taken to the operating room.
Doctors typically have patients remove nail polish prior to surgery, as it helps prevent unwanted bacteria being brought into the operating room.
The pulse oximeter, which is used to measure oxygen levels in the blood, is also usually placed on one's finger.
Remembering this, one viewer took to Twitter to comment: "Isn't Lola supposed to have her nail polish removed before surgery?"
Another echoed: "Oh EastEnders you could have at least taken Lola’s nail varnish off its a definite no no when having an operation."
"Need to take Lola's nail varnish off before surgery It's the small details", a third viewer chimed in.
The episode ended with Lola being taken to her surgery and mechanic Jay waiting outside as he made a heart sign with his hands through the window.
Ahead of the storyline, Lola actress Danielle Harold said ‘it means so much’ to be trusted with the emotional storyline on Albert Square, noting it will be one close to many EastEnders fans.
She said: “Sadly many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story and it’s been heartbreaking to speak to the families affected by brain tumours and hear their stories.
“They’ve been so amazing in sharing their experiences with me, and I’m so lucky to have them. I wouldn’t be able to do this storyline without their support.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One
