EastEnders fans were baffled on Friday night, as Phil Mitchell made a gruesome discovery at the Argee Bhajee - just weeks after builders were assessing the building.
The restaurant was caught up in a gas explosion, but work was not continued on the venue in the fallout due to an apparent lack of funds.
Work and assessments were halted, and the building has remained unused ever since.
But there was horror there on Friday night, as Tina Carter's decomposed corpse was found over a year after her murder.
Phil made the grim discovery while trashing the Argee Bhajee to scare off stepson Tommy Moon's bullies.
No one actually knows Tina is dead, presuming she had gone on the run - as backed up by her secret killer Gray Atkins.
Gray murdered Tina though in December 2020, months after murdering his wife Chantelle - something Tina realised to be the case.
On Friday, Phil looked gobsmacked to realise he had unearthed a body before he called the police to the scene.
But fans were divided over the moment, and while some were glad it was Phil who found her others called out the twist.
Some viewers suggested Tina should have been found weeks ago, when the workmen were in the building, as others questioned why her corpse did not smell having been there all that time.
Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "I mean not Phil smashing the ground and finding tina’s body when the construction men could have found it weeks ago lmao."
Another said: "This whole Phil smashing up floorboards is really contrived, quite recently builders finding Tina was a real possibility (makes more sense ), then apparently they ran out of cash to complete the job on the argee bahjee!"
A third fan added: "A body, decaying for over a year, would have stunk. The Argee Bargee would have been visited a lot over the last year (it was up for sale), but it was Phil Mitchell with a baseball bat that found Tina? Sure."
Meanwhile, another fan commented: "The builders in # Eastenders must of caught the lurgy &lost all sense of smell is my theory as to why they couldn’t smell a rotting corpse ..if that is Tina down there."
While for more than a year it wasn't disclosed where Tina's body was after her death, recent scenes revealed her corpse was buried in Walford.
Scenes next week will show the Carters learning the distressing news that Tina is dead, and her body has been located.
