- Writer Zoe Kazan has adapted John Steinbeck's classic 1952 novel East of Eden into a seven-part television series streaming on Netflix from 1 October.

- Kazan revealed that compressing the decades-spanning storyline forced her to make painful cuts, particularly reducing the focus on the Hamilton family.
- Unlike Elia Kazan's 1955 film adaptation, the new series includes the vital character of Lee, played by actor Hoon Lee.
- Interest in the new television adaptation has already sent sales of Steinbeck's original novel soaring by 250 per cent.
