East Lothian woman rushes to safety from swarm of bees in back garden

An East Lothian woman had her back garden sunbathing session interrupted in a terrifying ordeal involving a swarm of bees.

Victoria Catherine, who lives in Musselburgh, said that she was unsure if the group of insects were wasps or bees.

But it is suspected that they may have been bees due to her neighbour having a hive in their back garden.

Victoria however was not for taking any chances as she is “petrified” of wasps and instantly ran into her home for cover when she heard a buzzing in her ear.

She grabbed her phone after finding safety and started to record the swarm.

The incident is understood to have occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday June 22.

On her ordeal, she said: “I was sunbathing in the garden and I thought the buzzing was coming from the bee hive that is next door to me.

“Then all of a sudden there was an actual swarm.

“So I darted into the house and got my phone to film.

“I couldn’t tell if they were honey bees or wasps though as there were so many and they were flying so fast.

“I’m petrified when it comes to wasps. Bees I can handle but not wasps.

“I was just so shocked as it’s not really something you expect when you are relaxing in your garden.

“The odd bee or wasp, yes but not a swarm. Thankfully I wasn’t stung.

“They flew over my house and I have no idea where they went after that though.

“It’s safe to say that I kept my windows shut overnight last night.”
