Dozens of homes in an East Lothian village were evacuated after military bomb disposal experts were scrambled to secure historic explosives.
Residents in West Barns were ordered from their houses in the Edinburgh Road area following the discovery of ‘unexploded ordnance’ (UXO) on Tuesday afternoon.
Specialists from the Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams locked down parts of the village for several hours while the danger of the device to locals was fully assessed.

Police erected a cordon around several homes, with neighbours looking on during the operation.
The explosives were eventually removed and destroyed by the military unit before residents were allowed back in their homes.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.10pm on Tuesday 8 March, officers were called to a report of historical unexploded ordnance found in a property on Edinburgh Road, West Barns.
"Officers attended and a cordon was put in place and a number of houses were evacuated as a precaution.
"The EOD attended and removed the item. The cordon was removed at 5.45pm.”
