East Lothian driver has car seized at roadside as police crackdown on motorists

An East Lothian driver saw their car seized this week after being pulled to the side of the road by police.

The unsuspecting motorist was caught out on Friday (July 1) after a team of road officers were quick to pull the car over for an inspection.

In a warning to other drivers, Road Police said the individual had been heading through Dunbar during the afternoon where they were found to have no insurance.

Further investigations also discovered the black Volkswagen did not have a valid MOT certificate, with the car then seized at the side of the road.

Speaking on social media, Road Police said: "#DunbarRP stopped this Volkswagen in Dunbar this afternoon. The driver was found to have no insurance to drive the vehicle and the vehicle had no current MOT certificate.

"The driver will be reported to @COPFS and the vehicle was seized. #InsureItOrLoseIt."

The incident comes just days after a similar crackdown on drivers took place in West Lothian, where a driver had put four children in the back of the vehicle, two of which were sharing a seatbelt.

Another child was found to be using the middle arm rest as a booster seat, with the tyres on the car split in places, causing a severe safety risk.
