East Lothian driver gutted after stranger smashes car in leisure centre car park

An East Lothian driver has been left without transport after a vandal smashed in their car window.

Police Scotland responded to the incident, that happened in the Dunbar Leisure Centre car park, on the morning of Saturday April 2.

The owner of the car, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the senseless act of vandalism has left them without a car until next Thursday.

They rely on their vehicle as part of their job, with the damaged car belonging to their employers.

It is suspected that the smashed window is solely connected to an act of vandalism and was not related to someone trying to steal the car or any of the contents.

The owner says that nothing was taken from the vehicle and that no attempts were made to try to steal the car.

On the incident that took place just off of Victoria Street in Dunbar, they said: “It's a rubbish way to start the weekend. I hope that the folk who did it get caught.

“The company our insurers use won't be able to come and fix the car until next Thursday so we won't be able to use it until then which is frustrating.

“I have no idea when it took place unfortunately. And it looks like it was only vandalism as there was nothing taken from the inside of the car or anything like that.

“The car was in the car park overnight. We often park it there and this has been the first time we've had a problem.”

So far this weekend, Edinburgh Live has covered three stories regarding vehicle related crime.

Yesterday we reported how a young Midlothian council worker had her car stolen and written off by brazen thieves last Friday.

Alongside this we reported on how a woman had keys stolen from her home before a thief made off with her car before abandoning it damaged on a grass verge outside of Dunbar.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 10.25am on Saturday, 2 April, 2022 following the report of vandalism to a car on Victoria Street, Dunbar.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1104 of Saturday, 2 April, 2022.
