The Liberal Democrats will be hoping for a comeback in East Lothian at the council elections after none of the leading parties put forward enough candidates to take an overall majority.
Both Labour and the SNP have put up 10 candidates for the 22 seats available ruling out any chance of taking control.
Instead they will have to form a minority administration working with rival parties to support policies or create a coalition.
The local authority has been run by a Labour minority administration since the 2017 election.
But they face competition as the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish Green Party are both fielding a candidate in each of the six wards.
The Lib Dems had six councillors going into the 2012 election but lost all of them as a backlash against their Westminster leader Nick Clegg's coalition with David Cameron's Conservatives hit them hard.
They failed to regain any seats in 2017 but are again making a bid for a return to council; chambers at May's election.
The Scottish Family Party has also targeted East Lothian seats with three candidates standing - one in the Musselburgh ward, one in North Berwick Coastal and one in Dunbar.
And Alba has put forward four candidates targeting seats in Musselburgh, Preston Seton Gosford, Tranent Wallyford and Macmerry, and Haddington and Lammermuir.
UKIP has fielded a candidate in North Berwick Coastal, while the Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition have a candidate in Tranent Wallyford and Macmerry.
An independent candidate is standing in Haddington with a candidate for Independence for Scotland standing in Dunbar and East Linton.
Polling stations across the county will be open on Thursday, May 5 with the count expected to take place in Meadowmill Sports Centre, Tranent on Friday, May 6.
