East Kilbride Rugby Club boss Craig Brown says their 35-8 win at Carrick blew off the cobwebs from Christmas, and sets them up nicely for a derby against Cambuslang in Tennent’s West League 1.
The Torrance House club are sixth in the table, with two games in hand still to be played, and Brown wants to push his side up much further.
He said: “I’m pleased with the performance and the result. That game was about shaking off the cobwebs from Christmas, which they definitely did.
“We were a little bit rusty to start with, as you would expect – it was long break over the Christmas period, which I think everybody needed, just to get over some niggling injuries.
“The team we took down to Carrick was fairly strong, and I thought the guys put a performance on.
“In the first half it took us a while to get into our stride and start putting scores on the board, but the second half was a much better performance and we started to play more to our abilities.
“Some pleasing things for me to see was the heart and aggression, in terms of the defensive set that we did.”
On the visit by Cambuslang, Brown said: “Ourselves and Cambuslang have a really good relationship; we share players from our second XVs when we’re short, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a competitive game.
“It’s a really good scrap, and it usually takes our guys a couple of days to tell me their availability, but straight off the bat they were available. We’re well up for it.”
Kick-off on Saturday is 2pm.
