East Kilbride MP Lisa Cameron gives cash injection to support town's hospice

East Kilbride's MP praised the "essential" palliative care services of the town's hospice as she made a donation this week.

Dr Lisa Cameron, MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow presented Kilbryde Hospice with a cheque for £100 to help with their ongoing fundraising.

The MP said having a local hospice is "essential to delivering dignity and person-centred care" as she revealed she lost a family member in hospital when palliative care was unavailable in East Kilbride.

Dr Cameron said: "I am delighted to continue to support and donate to Kilbryde Hospice on a regular basis throughout the year.

"My family experienced losing a family member in hospital when palliative care was not available and whilst staff did everything possible at the time, having a local hospice is essential to delivering dignity and person-centred care for our loved ones and families at the most vulnerable of times."

Kilbryde Hospice has been providing services to people across South Lanarkshire - a population of 360,000 - since 2008.

The hospice recently unveiled a three-year plan to do more including providing digital access to services, boosting recruitment of staff including closer work with local schools and further education colleges and to work even closer with our local community to optimise service delivery.

Chief executive officer Gordon McHugh stated that 'The Strategic Plan 2023-2026' will support Kilbryde Hospice to deliver its vision of providing the best end of life care for everyone, and said "we know that what we do makes a difference and we want to make a bigger difference for more people".

A Kilbryde Hospice spokesperson said: "We are so grateful for Lisa’s ongoing support, which does not go unnoticed by everyone here at Kilbryde Hospice."

Kilbryde are appealing for raffle prizes for their upcoming events. This could range from a bath set to a gift or restaurant voucher.

If you are in a position to donate a prize visit the hospice reception at McGuinness Way, East Kilbride, G75 8GJ or contact the fundraising team on 01355 202020.
