Ice skating youngster Julian Mullin is celebrating after claiming the intermediate men’s title at the British Novice Championships in Sheffield recently.
The 12-year-old was in fine form at the event last month as he topped the podium to take gold, adding to a silver medal he won at the basic novice event at the end of 2021.
Coached by Leanne Collins at Olympia Figure Skating club based in the town centre, Julian’s return to the ice rink has been highly successful after the disappointment of having no ice to train on during the pandemic for over a year.
And Leanne is proud of the strides Julian has made during the difficult period.
She told Lanarkshire Live Sport: “Julian has come back on a high winning the silver medal in the basic novice men’s championships in December and now the intermediate mens title in April.
“For a year he kept motivated working skills off the ice via zoom classes set up by the clubs coaches, which meant his return to his skating was a smoother transition back on the ice.
“And it showed just how committed Julian is to his sport.”
Julian is currently ranked number one in the UK for his level and age and is also a GB development squad member.
Leanne added: “Julian is now focusing on preparing for an international competition to represent his country and to move up to the advanced novice boys section next season.”
