East Kilbride Christmas Kindness Campaign will help those most in need during festivities

A campaign aimed at helping those most in need in East Kilbride this Christmas has been launched.

In the wake of another challenging year for many and with so many families struggling, a group of organisations based in the town have joined forces once again.

The EK Christmas Kindness Campaign aims to ensure that everyone in the area receives a gift this year.

In previous years the campaign has helped thousands of families across the constituency and brought local communities together to help each other in their time of need.

It is a collaboration of a number of local groups, all spearheaded by a local charity, Share Alike, whilst also gaining support from EK, East Kilbride as well as the involvement of many other volunteers.

And as part of the EK Christmas Kindness Campaign volunteers will also be offering a free lunch on Christmas day for anyone who would otherwise be alone.

Founding volunteer of Share Alike, Annmarie Campbell, told Lanarkshire Live : "Last year alone more than 2000 gifts were collected and distributed throughout the community as well as thousands of pounds being raised to help struggling families.

"The campaign hopes to continue this and push to spread Christmas cheer throughout East Kilbride.

"This campaign brings together people from all different walks of life from both within the community and afar.

"This drive to help those in need will hopefully make Christmas a little brighter for many individuals who are struggling during the current cost of living crisis, which is made especially difficult during the holiday season.

"The importance of helping each other have a happy Christmas and spreading kindness cannot be stressed enough as a goal for this campaign."

MP Dr Lisa Cameron and MSP Collette Stevenson are also supporting the campaign.

Donation points for gifts can be found in the following locations:

● Dollan Aqua Centre
