East Kilbride boxer's Trump Turnberry headliner is 'biggest night of my career' as he faces Swedish champion

David Jamieson is set for the biggest night of his career as he tackles Swedish champion Samo Jangirov at Trump Turnberry on Friday.

The Westwood boxer is headlining the FightZone event on a joint Fight Academy and Kynoch Boxing Promotions card for the IBO Intercontinental title.

Cruiserweight Jamieson, 30, is evenly-matched with his opponent, having lost just one of eight fights and stopped five opponents, while Jangirov – originally from Azerbaijan – has lost twice in 10 outings.

Jangirov, 36, won the Swedish national crown in 2019.

Jamieson said: “This is going to be massive, it’s probably going to be one of the biggest nights of my career at this point – or certainly one of the most memorable.

“We’re taking about 200 people from East Kilbride through to Trump Turnberry, so hopefully it’s one of the biggest, going on to bigger, nights.

“It’s a right good 50-50 fight, a nice step up, and he’s got a decent world ranking, so it will be a good scalp to get.

“This guy is a big hit for himself over in Sweden, he’s got a big following and a record very similar to myself as well, so he’ll be coming to win.

“That’s what we’re looking for, we’re looking to test me, you’re wanting to take a step up every time.

“I’m confident, I’m a big puncher at the weight, and I’ll be looking for him to meet me in the centre of the ring.

“I’ll be hoping to get him out of there inside the distance.

“You don’t get paid for overtime in this game, so you’re looking to get them out of there as quickly as possible!”

Jamieson has spent years of hard graft to get to this stage and believes he’s in perfect shape to pull off the big win he needs.

He added: “You hear fighters say it all the time, but I’ve really left no stone unturned.

“This has been the culmination of basically a year straight in the gym.

Winning at Trump Turnberry could lead to bigger and better things for the East Kilbride fighter (Mohammed Saleh)

“We’ve been six days a week – live, eat, breathe, sleep, boxing – diet has been bang-on, the weight has been really good.

“But you’ll see that in my performance and on the scales as well – I’m in top nick.”

David’s promoter and manager Sam Kynoch said: “David’s had a great training camp and is ready for this challenge, and his first title fight. He has jumped at the opportunity.”
