Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor says his side are trying to topple one of the ‘Old Firm’ of the Lowland League in East Kilbride tomorrow, but must believe they can win those games.
And from being a player at the club for nearly four years, Proctor knows how much pressure his opponents will be under.
Proctor takes Colts to K-Park for a clash against his hometown team, on his first visit as Colts boss since taking the reins from James Orr at Broadwood in the summer.
While he acknowledges that it will be weird to head back to his old stomping ground, Proctor says he’s looking for three points.
The former Inverness defender said: “We’ll treat it like any other game. We’ll be looking to get a positive result and there’s no reason why we can’t, given the form we’re on in the league.
“We’re going there in reasonable form, so we’ll give it our best shot.
“We’re under no illusions that it’s the league-leaders that we’re going to play, they’re there for a reason, so we know it’s going to be a tough 90 minutes, but we’ll go there and give it our best shot.
“The pressure is on them, I was under that pressure when I was a player at East Kilbride, going into every game expecting and hoping to win.
“That’s part and parcel of being at a big club like East Kilbride, and then you’ve got teams and players who are there to try and upset the odds, so you’re there to be shot at.
“It’s similar to the Old Firm at Premiership level – East Kilbride are at that level in the Lowland League for a reason with the results they’ve had over the years, and winning the title a couple of times as well.
“We’ll definitely treat them with that respect that they deserve, but we’ll go to battle with them for 90 minutes and see where it gets us.”
Colts have an added incentive that three points could see them jump from 11th to seventh.
Proctor said: “It will be a competitive game, because of the quality on show from both teams, with the type of players we both have.
“I’m sure it will be played in the right way, and whoever’s the best team on the day wins.
“We’re going along nicely, we’re in 11th and hoping to be a wee bit higher if we win our games in hand.
“We have to believe, when we’re up against teams in the top end of the division, that we can go and get something from the games.
“That’s where we want to be. We’ve got to earn the right to be up there with the big boys.
“We’re not in that position yet, but we’re hoping to keep growing and progressing as a club.
“Hopefully we’ll keep doing that and Saturday is no different.”
