East Bristol Bakery set to open second site in Wapping Wharf

East Bristol Bakery is opening its second site this week to bring fresh bread, pastries and cakes to the Wapping Wharf shopping quarter. It has moved into a unit in the Cargo 2 development left empty by Bakers & Co after the company closed up in September.

The small craft bakery - which has been operating from St Marks Road in Easton for the past five years - is famed for its freshly baked Challah and cinnamon swirls. It has collaborated with The Public Market and Brockley Stores for the city centre site to serve up locally sourced produce including sourdough loaves made with Shipton Mill flour and sausage rolls using locally reared free-range pork.

Speaking on the new opening, East Bristol Bakery Managing Director Rob Hagen said: “Wapping Wharf is an incredible community which already hosts some of the best food around. We love the other retailers already there (Meatbox, Bristol Cheesemonger, Herbivore to name just a few) and some of our favourite restaurants!

“We’re hoping to bring smiles in the morning – a cheery hello, an amazing Extract coffee, and freshly baked breakfast. We’ll be serving breakfast (think pastries, bacon sandwiches or bread to toast at home), lunch (homemade sausage rolls, savoury danishes, sandwiches) and of course, all the cake! We may even have a few mince pies up our sleeve in the run-up to Christmas.

“We are really looking forward to working together with some of our new neighbours to help people understand the journey of where our food comes from and where it is made!”

The bakery opens to the public on Wednesday, December 7 as the Cargo development has seen an influx of new arrivals in recent weeks with vegan deli Herbivore, Tare's new site Picole and signage emerging for a new project called Daily Noodle by Larkin Cen of Woky Ko. Wapping Warf said it was the highest number of new arrivals they'd seen at one time since the launch of Cargo back in 2017.

Stuart Hatton, managing director at Umberslade, the developer behind Wapping Wharf, added: "We’ve always wanted Wapping Wharf to provide people with a one-stop destination where they can get all of their essentials, so to have another fantastic local bakery joining our community is fantastic news. We’re big fans of East Bristol Bakery and love their ethos of using locally grown and sourced produce, and think they’re going to be a wonderful addition to our family here at Wapping Wharf.”

The positive news comes as Wild Beer fell into administration this week, plunging the future of the Wapping Wharf taproom into uncertainty. However the bar has confirmed that it is still open and it has encouraged people to come and support them.
