Easing Trade War Fears Spark Short Covering in Sugar Futures

May NY world sugar #11 (SBK25) today is up +0.28 (+1.56%), and May London ICE white sugar #5 (SWK25) is up +10.90 (+2.12%).

Sugar prices are moving higher today after President Trump paused reciprocal tariffs on 56 countries for 90 days on Wednesday, easing global trade war fears and sparking short covering in sugar.   On Wednesday, NY sugar had fallen to a 5-week low, and London sugar dropped to a 2-month low due to concern that consumer demand for sugar would decline as the global trade war escalated and tariffs boosted sugar prices for consumers.
