'Easily ignored symptom led to my cancer diagnosis - if one person gets checked out it will be worth it'

Christine Amyes wasn’t overly worried when she began using the toilet more than usual. But months later, on Christmas Eve, the symptom would lead to a life-changing diagnosis.

The 61-year-old decided to book a GP appointment near the end of 2021 after noticing she was using the bathroom more frequently. Although she showed no other symptoms, her doctor referred her for tests.

It was the night before Christmas at Wythenshawe Hospital when she was given the devastating news. Christine had bowel cancer – and she needed surgery urgently.
