Early morning kitchen fire closes McDonald's restaurant

A McDonald's restaurant was forced to close its doors after a kitchen fire this morning.

Earlestown's branch of the fast food giant was brought to a standstill on March 16 after a kitchen fire broke out shortly before 9am. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was alerted, and on scene within five minutes.

Two fire engines attended, and crews discovered a fire had broken out in the kitchen. The blaze had been dampened down and contained by McDonald's staff.

One member of the public told the ECHO: "I came to get some breakfast this morning as I had a little break from work, and the place was coned off. I wasn't able to get any food so I was gutted."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted to a fire at McDonald's on Earle Street, Newton-le-Willows at 8.55am, two fire engines were on the scene at 9am.

"There had been a fire in the kitchen, which had been put out by members of staff before we arrived. Fire crews left the scene at 9.51am and handed the incident over to the building owners."

McDonald's was approached for comment.
