Philadelphia is headed up the New Jersey Turnpike this weekend for an intriguing Sunday afternoon matchup against the AFC East’s New York Jets.
The Eagles are 12-0 in the all-time series vs. the Jets, and that dozen wins are currently the most wins without a loss by any NFL franchise in a head-to-head series.
With preparation underway, here are five storylines to watch for Week 6.
1
Jets talking crazy
During his most recent media session, Jets head coach Robert Saleh vowed to be ready for the “tush push,” Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
“If the quarterback carries the ball,” coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday, “we’ve got to give him 11 kisses.”
The Eagles were successful on four of six pushes in last week’s 23-14 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
On the season, they’ve converted 13 of 16 into first downs or touchdowns — an 81.3% success rate, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Saleh’s comments ensured that Philadelphia will be even more brazen with their attempts.
2
All-time history
The two teams meet yearly in the preseason, but regular season results have been one sided in favor of the NFC East neighbors.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a 12-0 record versus the New York Jets all-time.
3
Eagles first half explosion
Philadelphia has one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses, and they’ll face one of the most hyped defenses in the NFL.
The Eagles dominate teams in the second half, while their Week 6 opponent seems to strengthen as the game goes on.
The Jets have given up just a combined 12 points and 269 yards in the third quarter this season. They have allowed 17 points and 428 yards in the fourth.
The Chiefs put up 17 points and 200 yards in the first quarter, and Philadelphia has to strike early and often, putting Zach Wilson in a position to play from behind.
4
Quinnen Williams
Jalen Carter has been the talk of the NFL, but the Jets have their own star at the defensive tackle position, and he’ll provide Jason Kelce with back to back monster matchups.
Quinnen Williams is the Jets fifth-year defensive tackle and an All-Pro at the position.
Williams has just a half sack through five games this season, but he’s accounted for 20 pressures (four quarterback hits and 16 hurries), ranking third among interior defensive linemen throughout the league. His pass rush win rate of 18.3% ranks seventh among interior defensive linemen who have taken at least 87 snaps this season.
5
Breece Hall
Philadelphia has exelled at stopping the rush this season, and they’ll get the ultimate challenge in Jets running back Breece Hall.
Hall has fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered last season, and he just dropped 194 yards from scrimmage on the Broncos.
The former Iowa State running back ranks No. 6 in the NFL with 387 rushing yards and his 7.2 average leads the league among backs with at least 50 rushing attempts. Hall’s 6.34 yards per carry in his first 12 games are the most in NFL history.
