EA rolls out EV mini truck

The newly launched mini truck is expected to help further expand EA's EV business.

SET-listed Energy Absolute (EA), a renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) developer and operator, has launched an electric mini truck as the company continues to expand its business in the commercial EV category.

The launch of EA's MT30 mini truck follows its earlier introduction of an electric boat and an electric bus to the country's transport sector.

EA has already stated that it would promote commercial EVs, especially in mass transit and the transport of goods, as part of its efforts to grow in the domestic EV supply chain and help the government in its efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the country.

Buses, boats and trucks all have large bodies that require a greater quantity of diesel to power them than saloon cars, meaning they need to use more fossil fuel, which produces carbon dioxide emissions.

EA anticipates that people will order its battery-powered mini trucks at the Thailand International Motor Expo, which is scheduled to be held in early December, said Sompote Ahunai, chief executive of EA.

The company is targeting people who want a vehicle for commercial purposes.

The price of an MT30 ranges from 748,500 to 766,500 baht. It was designed by Mine Mobility Corporation, a subsidiary of EA, which assembles the vehicles at a factory in Chachoengsao.

EA will supply batteries for the vehicle from its battery production facility, with technology from Amita Technologies Inc, a Taiwanese energy storage and battery manufacturer.

EA is the largest shareholder of Amita Technologies.

The diversification of EA into EV technology is required to maintain the firm's momentum as the adder tariff granted by the government to its solar and wind farms will begin to expire this year.

Solar and wind farms operated by EA have a combined electricity generation capacity of 664 megawatts.
