EA claims Battlefield 6 is the "best selling shooter game of the year," but that's actually selling it short according to sales data

Best weapons in Battlefield Redsec.

We've had some big shooters this year, including Borderlands 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, Arc Raiders, and of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. But the biggest is Battlefield 6, at least according to the game's official website.

There's a blurb on the landing page, encouraging people to buy it and join the fray. In the last line is a bold claim: "There's never been a better time to jump into the best selling shooter game of the year." No figures are present, there's no acknowledgment of this on the social media of EA or any of the Battlefield studios, but it's there, clear as day.

New sales data for the year from Mat Piscatella, senior director at Circana, supports EA's claim. According to his numbers, not only is Battlefield 6 the highest-selling FPS or shooter of 2025, but it's also a contender for the best-selling game of the year, full stop.

He states the sequel is already number one on PC and Xbox, but sits in second on PlayStation behind NBA 2K26. Losing out to any of the major sports franchises is never a big defeat, just demonstrating how big this installment is right now.

It may go without saying, but Battlefield 6 has also set a mighty series record, becoming the best-selling entry in the franchise thus far. Sales for the month of October exceeded lifetime copies sold for Battlefield 1, the previous benchmark for such things.

We still have Christmas to go, and figures for Black Ops 7 will factor in more come December. Never count out Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6's "awful" new Sabotage mode is being torn apart by FPS players who "cannot fathom how this mode was approved" outside of existing "to retain some CoD players."
