E4 Married At First Sight UK's Matt Murray holidaying with series six star Marilyse Corrigan following Whitney split

There were raised eyebrows when it was revealed that he had split with Whitney Hughes after they fell in love on the matchmaking reality show Married At First Sight UK. Barber Matt Murray caused shockwaves when he and Whitney walked into the MAFS UK reunion solo this week.

The pair got together on the E4 show, which sees singles paired up by experts and meeting for the first time on their wedding days, after Matt ended his marriage with Gemma Rose and Whitney split from her husband Duka Cavolli. An emotional final get-together with the dating experts saw Matt and Whitney reveal why they had broken up just weeks after falling for each other

Matt explained: “Coming out of the experiment we spent a lot of time together to start with didn't we? Whitney came up to mine, I went down to Whitney's.

He added: ""I just think we hit a few boundaries. It's s***. It was, it was s***. And Whitney said: "I feel that because Matthew has a lot going on in his life – a lot going on in his head – I felt that it was manifesting to me sometimes in ways that I didn't like,” she said.

Matt agreed that "insecurities" had resurfaced and been "put on to Whit." After they shared their story Matt, who had previously opened up about his mum's cancer battle, was excused from the rest of the session.

Now the calisthenics athlete is holidaying with Married At First Sight 2021 star Marilyse Corrigan, whose marriage to Franky Spencer ended after the show. The pair have jetted away together as friends.

A spokeswoman for Marilyse told the Manchester Evening News: "She’s being nothing more than a supportive friend to him whilst other friends from the show are filming the Christmas reunion."

And they explained: "She has gone to recover from a marathon which she ran for Kidney Research recently and she’s celebrating with her son that it's a year since donating her kidney to save his dad’s life."

A year ago Marilyse was applauded for donating a kidney to save her ex's life. The personal trainer, who has two teenage sons with her ex, underwent an operation on Tuesday as part of a kidney sharing scheme. She stepped in to help because her former partner has polycystic kidney disease.

When they were together he told Marilyse that he may need a new kidney one day, and she said she would get tested to find if she was a suitable donor. In 2019, when her ex was told he needed dialysis and a transplant, she stuck to her word but didn't tell him at first.

After rigorous tests she was told she was healthy enough to donate a kidney but couldn't directly donate to him. So instead, the pair took part in a kidney donation scheme.

Marylise's kidney went to a woman in need and her ex received a kidney in turn. Marilyse wrote about the life-changing day ahead on her Instagram: "In 3 days time is it a very special day because it’s my eldest son's 16th birthday! It’s also a special day for my family, because it’s the day my boys' dad finally gets the kidney transplant he’s been waiting for…

"Two years ago I decided to put myself forward and volunteer without my ex knowing. After undergoing lots of hospital trips for tests, scans etc, I was told I could help him! But not directly.

"So that’s where a kidney sharing scheme happens. And now, the operation will happen on November 9th. I know that by helping him, it is the right thing for me to do for everyone."
