India has allowed E100, a fuel made up of 100% ethanol, to be used in vehicles specifically designed to run on it. The government has amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to include E100 in the emission standards for flex-fuel vehicles, alongside E85, which contains 85% ethanol. The change provides a regulatory framework for vehicles built to use higher ethanol blends. However, it does not mean that motorists can start using E100 in any regular petrol car or that the fuel will immediately be available at petrol pumps across India. The amendment was notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under G.S.R. 911(E) in the Official Gazette.
