Energy supplier E.ON Next is to create 1,300 new jobs as part of a huge recruitment drive.
E.ON Next is looking to expand its customer support operations with roles available in towns and cities including Nottingham, Leicester and Bolton.
New hires will look after both residential and small business customers, with people also being hired to help people through social media.
The business is also looking for staff to recruit new customers and to support households with prepayment meters.
Previous experience of working in the energy industry is "not essential" for these roles, according to Ramona Vlasiu, chief operating officer.
Instead, the energy firm says it is looking for people who have "the desire to care for our customers" and help improve the business.
E.ON Next currently has around 5.5million customers across Great Britain.
Ms Vlasiu said: "We do things a little differently at E.ON Next – our energy specialists are dedicated to caring for their own group of customers so they can get to know them better and do more to help them, which is all the more important in these challenging times.
"We would love to hear from people who are passionate about providing excellent service. Previous experience of the energy industry is not essential but the desire to care for our customers and help us continually improve our business is."
Chief people officer Chris Norbury added: "These roles provide a great opportunity for people to join our business and help us drive the energy transition towards a smarter and more sustainable future.
"We are proud to have been accredited as one of the UK’s top 50 inclusive employers for the past six years in a row because we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels respected and valued – a place where everyone is empowered to develop and thrive and to be the best they can."
The update from E.ON Next comes as businesses boost the pay packets of workers during the cost of living crisis.
Costa Coffee yesterday said it is increasing hourly wages for 16,000 workers by up to 7.3% from this April.
Base pay rates for Costa baristas will increase from £10 an hour to at least £10.70.
More experienced Barista Maestros will see hourly pay rise from £10.53 an hour to at least £11.23, depending on location and role.
Pret A Manger is to hike pay for team members from £10.30 to £10.60, or from £11.55 to £11.90, depending on location.
Barista pay will increase from between £10.85 to £11.20, or £12.50 to £12.85, again depending on location and experience.
