Vacuum cleaner and haircare giant Dyson is opening its second store in the UK - and this one's coming to Manchester. Dyson already has a demo store on London's Oxford Street, which is hugely popular with shoppers.
Tomorrow (Saturday July 2) the company is opening its second demo store in Manchester's Trafford Centre, and it's like an Aladdin's cave for tech nerds and beauty buffs alike. Inside the store you'll find all of Dyson's products. As well as vacuum cleaners you'll find a whole range of technology - which includes fans, air purifiers and of course hair tools.
The store is absolutely full to the brim of products you can try out for yourself and play with, so you can see for yourself how everything works. If you're looking for a vacuum, you can pick from loads of colours and all of the latest designs in the store. You're also able to customsize your vacuum so it's the colours you want. I was told pink is quite popular - but there's a whole range to choose from, so you can fill your boots if you're into jazzy vacuums.
The store's customization aspect doesn't end there, as there's an exciting machine inside which will deboss your initials onto cases for hair products. You'll be able to pick which metallic colour you want (they have all sorts - the bronze was my favourite), and it takes a matter of seconds to do. I can imagine there will be A LOT of men rushing to do this last minute when Christmas comes - especially given it's next to the Pandora store, enough said.
Wander to the back of the store and you'll find (what I think is) its best feature - a hair salon. It's a fully-fledged blow dry bar where you can get your hair completely transformed while you shop. What a time to be alive.
The Dyson blow dry bar uses all of Dyson's technology to give your hair a complete overhaul - and there's even an option for the stylists to teach you how to use the products on your hair for the best result. If you want to do this, the stylist will do half of your hair as a tutorial, and then guide you through how to do the other half yourself.
There's a blow dry menu where you can choose what style you'd like, or you can ask your stylist to help you choose. I tried out the salon myself before the store opens, and I was blown away by the results.
My stylist Demitiri Deacon-Jones completely transformed the messy bun I arrived with to a sleek but bouncy style. He's helping to train the stylists who will be working in the salon - so you can take it from me, you'll be in good hands if you fancy a blow dry at the Dyson store.
Because we used the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer to dry my hair, the sound was minimal, so Demitri and I were able to chat throughout the blow dry. Anyone who knows me will know I love to chat, so that was definitely a bonus.
Demitri finished my hair off using the Corale Straightener. The straighteners gave a really sleek finish as they have flexing copper plates which let you achieve the same style with less heat than conventional straighteners. They don't leave that nasty crease in your hair you can get from some straighteners, either.
If you want a blow dry you're best booking an appointment - though walk-ins are available too. You'll be able to get your hair done for free if you buy a product from the store. If not there will be an appointment fee.
If you don't want to book an appointment but still want to try out the tech on your hair, you can do that too in store. There will be stylists on hand to help you out as you play with the products and decide what it is you want.
