Dylan McCarthy remembered as 'a real team player' as GAA club pays tribute

Dylan McCarthy's GAA club have remembered him as "a huge addition to any team and a real team player" following his death.

The 29-year-old died after he suffered catastrophic head and brain injuries in an early morning attack in Kildare.

Dylan, from Kilmallock in Co Limerick, had been on life support since the attack on the Dublin Road in Monasterevin, Co Kildare at 12.30am on Sunday.

Medics in Tallaght Hospital had spent all Sunday trying to save him, but he sadly lost his fight for life on Monday.

His local GAA club, Kilmallock GAA, paid a heartfelt tribute to him on Facebook and described him as an "absolute gentleman" by those who knew him.

They wrote: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we at Kilmallock Gaa pass on our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Dylan McCarthy.

"Dylan played underage hurling and football at underage level and also played u21 and Junior hurling . He was a huge addition to any team and a real team player always .

"To Eamon, Marita and Orla, Dylan's partner Aoife, extended family and friends we are sorry for your great loss. We will remember Dylan always."

Gardai and emergency services were called to Dublin Road shortly after 12.30am on Sunday following reports of an altercation involving a group of people at the entrance of a premises.

Investigating gardai are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident to contact them.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Dublin Street, Monasterevin between 12.15am and 12.45am on Sunday is asked to contact gardai.

Any road users who were in the area and who may have camera, including dash cam, footage is asked to make this available to gardai.
