Millions of pensioners across England, Wales and Northern Ireland could receive a Winter Fuel Payment of up to £300 (406.20) for winter 2026 to 2027, but reaching State Pension age does not automatically guarantee eligibility.
Under DWP rules, people born on or before 27 June 1960 can qualify if they usually live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and meet the other conditions. Entitlement is based on their circumstances during the qualifying week, which runs from 21 to 27 September 2026.
