Pensioners are being urged to secure their £150 Warm Home Discount before it’s too late. The Department for Work and Pensions estimates 850,000 people are eligible for the payment.
It’s calling on families to check whether older relatives are among those who could claim the extra cash to help with their heating bills. The cash is paid automatically to eligible pensioners who are on the lowest incomes, but in order to qualify they need to be in receipt of certain benefits, including pension credit, ChronicleLive reports.
Everyone receiving pension credit on or before Sunday, August 21 this year can receive the payment, which is paid via your energy company. Although those who claim for pension credit now and are successful can also receive the payment, as it can be backdated for up to three months.
