DWP warns millions may have to pay back cost of living payment

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has warned anyone who may have received the cost of living payment by accident will have to pay it back.

From June 20, more than six million people were issued automatic payments of £150 if they received disability benefits. The final payments are expected on July 4 though some may arrive later depending on special circumstances.

However, in an update on the official cost of living payments 2023/24 page on GOV.UK, DWP warns that “If you receive a Disability Cost of Living Payment, but we later find that you were not eligible for it, you may have to pay it back”.
