Universal Credit claimants are being warned over a crackdown on benefit fraud which The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) hopes will stop massive losses as part of a £613 million plan.
The plan, 'Fighting Fraud in the Welfare System' will aim to stop around £2 billion of losses that happen due to fraud or error over the next five years. Investigators may also social media accounts and search your online profiles for pictures, location check-ins, and other evidence which may or may not be useful to them.
A total of 2,000 jobs are being created to form a new team reports the Liverpool Echo. The workers will review the circumstances of Universal Credit claims that the DWP suspects may be incorrect including suspicious cases that entered the system during the pandemic.
