The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has provided an update on when everyone will receive the £400 energy bill discount, as panic over the cost of living rages on. Millions of vulnerable households will get a total of £1,200 as a one-off support payment to help ease the burden of rising costs while all domestic electricity customers will receive at least £400 in discount.
Households will begin receiving the discount this October with instalments being sent out between October 2022 and March 2023. The Energy Bills Support Scheme will be handed out to around 29 million households across the UK and will be sent out automatically - this means that customers will not need to apply for the discount.
The £400 discount will be handed out by suppliers to ensure that households will get the financial support they need during the winter months when energy usage will be at its highest, as seen in Manchester Evening News.
