Claimants of Universal Credit are set for an increase in payment rates this week. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that they will receive the 10.1 per cent uprating in benefit payments due from today (May 16).
It comes as other benefits, including State Pension, were increased on April 10 as part of the annual uprating exercise. The new rates are set to land in accounts this month.
As reported by the Daily Record, Labour MP Dame Nia Griffith asked Minister for Employment Guy Opperman MP whether the uprating “was paid to claimants in their April benefit payment”. He replied: “Increases in Universal Credit come into force from the start of the first assessment period beginning on or after the first Monday of the tax year.
