DWP legacy claimants to appeal decision to exclude them from Universal Credit £20 uplift

Old-style benefits claimants who did not get the £20 weekly Universal Credit uplift during the pandemic have launched an application to appeal a High Court decision from last month.

Two million people who have not yet been moved onto Universal Credit by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) could see the legal battle against return to court.

Families were left shocked last month when the High Court ruled the DWP didn’t break the law when it excluded those on legacy benefits from a £20 weekly payment during the Covid pandemic.
