DWP issues important update on when people will get their £150 cost-of-living payment

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued an update on when millions of people will receive their £150 cost-of-living payment. Around six million people started receiving the money from Tuesday, June 20, in the latest support package being rolled out by the UK government.

The money is being sent out to those on disability benefits such as personal independence payments, attendance allowance and disability living allowance. You can read the full list of qualifying benefits and health conditions here.

While around 1.6m people have already received the money this week, a government minister has issued an update on when exactly you can expect to see the money - which is being sent out automatically - into your account. The Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Tom Pursglove, told the House of Commons on Tuesday that the DWP planned to have made 99% of payments to those already eligible by Monday, June 26.

"Those cash payments, which we estimate will be worth around £1 billion, will be automatically transferred into people’s bank accounts, with those eligible for the support not needing to take any action," Mr Pursglove said.

“By the end of Monday, June 26, we plan to have made 99% of payments to those already eligible. That is millions of payments being made in just seven days. Most remaining already eligible people will receive their payment by July 4."

He added: “We estimate that nearly 60% of individuals who receive an extra-costs disability benefit will also receive the means-tested benefit cost-of-living payment, and more than 85% will receive either of, or both, the means-tested pensioner payments."

The DWP has also said that payments may come later in some cases, such as if you’re awarded a qualifying benefit at a later date or you change the account your benefit is paid into, but they will still be made automatically into your account.

For anyone who doesn't get their money by July 4, you will also be able to report a missing payment from Wednesday, July 5. Further details will be confirmed closer to the time. The government guidance said: "You will be able to report a missing disability cost-of-living payment from July 5, 2023. Do not contact us before then as we will not be able to take any action."
