DWP Cost of Living payment update as more people to receive £301

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a Cost of Living payment update as more people are set to see £301 land in their bank accounts.

This £301 is the first of three DWP cost of living payments set to be issued to help with rising bills, totalling up to £900.

In March, the government department confirmed those claiming means-tested benefits would receive their first financial boost between April 25 and May 17. These benefits include Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support and Pension Credit.

And while the above claimants were given a date, people on Tax Credits were not, despite being eligible for the cash. However, the DWP has now said when they can expect to receive the cash.

A DWP update on Tuesday said: "The £301 Cost of Living Payment for people on tax credits and no other low income benefits will be paid between 2 and 9 May 2023 for most people."

The second payment is due to be sent in summer 2023, while the third payment will be sent in spring 2024. All the cost of living payments will be tax-free, will not count towards the benefit cap, and will not have any impact on existing benefit awards.

Exact dates for the second and third instalment of the £900 cost of living payments - set to be worth £300 and £299 - are yet to be announced.
