DWP confirm eligibility for £300 cash boost on top of cost of living payment

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have confirmed who will receive a cash boost from November.

From the start of November, millions of households in the UK will receive an extra £300 on top of the DWP £650 cost of living payment and the energy discount.

To be eligible for the cash boost, you must also be receiving or are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment. The Winter Fuel Payment is giving to select pensioners in the UK, however not all pensioners are automatically eligible, as Manchester Evening News reports.

A Government spokesman said: "If you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023, you will get an extra £300 for your household paid with your normal payment from November 2022. This is in addition to any Cost of Living Payment you get with your benefit or tax credits.

"The full amount of Winter Fuel Payment you will get for winter 2022 to 2023 depends on your circumstances."

Here is a breakdown of how much you could receive from the Winter Fuel Payment, depending on your circumstance.

Who is eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment?

According to the DWP, you are automatically eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment if you meet one of the following:

  • You were born on or before September 25, 1956
  • You live in the UK for at least one day during the qualifying week of September 19 to 25, 2022

It is unlikely you will receive the payment if you miss the September qualifying week. However, if you did not live in the UK during the qualifying week, you may still be able to receive the payment if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You live in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) country
  • You have a genuine and sufficient link to the UK - such as having lived or work in the UK, or have family in the UK.
