DWP changes payment dates for Universal Credit, PIP and other benefits due to Queen's funeral

The Department for Work and Pensions has issued a warning that changes will be made to benefit and credit payments on Monday, September 19.

This is due to the fact that Queen Elizabeth II's funeral is set to take place on Monday, which has now been designated a bank holiday. Because of this, the DWP has announced that many claimants will be receiving their payments early.

Now, benefits and credits will be paid on Friday, September 16 - the last working day before the bank holiday Monday. The DWP said: "The Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue and Customs have put arrangements in place to ensure all benefits and credits due to be paid on this date – now a bank holiday for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral - will be delivered in advance.

"People who are due to receive payments on Monday 19 September will instead be paid on Friday 16 September, the last working day before the State Funeral. This arrangement follows standard DWP and HMRC protocol that sees benefit and credit payment dates brought forward in line with national bank holidays."

Here is a full list of the benefit and credit payments that will be affected by the Queen's funeral:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • State Pension
  • Universal Credit
  • Child Benefit/Guardian’s Allowance
  • Working Tax Credits
  • Child Tax Credits

It comes after many shops and services are expected to be either alter their services or close entirely for the whole of the Queen's funeral. Some major businesses which have announced closures for Monday include Asda and M&S.

A Government statement said: “Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral, will be a national bank holiday. This will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning."
