Downing Street today refused to rule out hammering millions of residents with pension and benefit cuts next April, after Rishi Sunak ascended to power earlier this week.
Refusing to raise the state pension in line with 10.1 per cent inflation would be a U-turn on other previous decisions, despite the newly founded Conservative leader's vows to honour the 2019 Tory manifesto.
A week to the day before Liz Truss' resignation, the then in power PM confirmed that pensions would rise by 10.1 per cent in April 2023 - having previous put the move in doubt. But today, Downing Street once again cast doubts on the issue - refusing to set the rise in stone under the country's new leader.
