The Government has released further details on the Winter Fuel Payment as a boost to help households as energy bills soar. The energy price cap rise will mean many people will struggle to afford their heating bills during the cost of living crisis, with one in four people planning to keep their heating off this winter according to a survey by Savanta ComRes.
It is estimated that more than eight million households will benefit from the Winter Fuel Payment across the country. Winter Fuel Payments are being paid separately from the Cold Weather Payments, a payment offered if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days, reports Lancs Live.
The DWP has described the amounts people can expect to receive in different scenarios including whether you live alone, with a partner under 80, with a partner over 80, are on specific benefits, or reside in a care home. Those eligible for the payment can make a first-time claim by phone or post.
